An academic, advocate and a politician, Dean Kuriakose holds variety of experiences and positions.
Dean was born on 27 June 1981, to Adv. A. M Kuriakose and Rosamma from Kulappuram, Paingottoor.
Dean underwent schoolings at his hometown and within Idukki district. Dean began his pre-graduate studies at New Man college Thodupuzha, followed by graduation in Bsc.Physics in St.Joseph's college Molamattom before pursuing his LLB from Kerala Law Academy Law College, Trivandrum.
Dean graduated LLB and enrolled as an advocate on 2005.
Dean was awarded with 1st rank by Mahatma Gandhi university for M.A in Human Rights & Politics in 2014 and is currently pursuing Ph.D in International Relations and Politics from Central University of Kerala.
Dean Kuriakose is the 12th Lok Sabha MP representing Idukki Constituency of Kerala state at the PARLIAMENT OF INDIA, Member of Standing Committee on Labour, Member of Consultative Committee at Ministry of Rural Development and Ministry of Panchayati Raj, State President of Indian Youth Congress, Kerala State.
Dean is an affluent member of Indian National Congress, follows and propagates its core values and virtues to the best of it.
The call to serve the nation was incumbent in Dean from a very young age. Foreseeing the role of youth in shaping the India's future, at the very prime age Dean joined KSU, the student wing of the Indian National Congress, and was chosen as the Unit secretary at New Man College Thodupuzha during 1996 - 98. In the subsequent year, Dean was elected as the KSU unit president at St.Joseph's college Molamattom and held position from 1999- 2000. In 2000, Dean was elected as the University Union Councilor at St.Joseph's college Molamattom and in 2001, elected as the Student’s Council Member at the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam.
In 2004, Dean was elected as the KSU State General Secretary and held the position until 2007, and in the same year elected as the KSU State Vice President and held the position until 2009.
During his period at KSU, Dean fought against the capitation fees at self financing colleges and for the removal of the controversial topics from text books of school children in Kerala.
In 2009, Dean was elected as the Kerala State Secretary for Indian Youth Congress . In 2010, Dean was elected by Indian Youth Congress as the Lok Sabha President, Idukki, and this position was held until May 2013. On June 2013, Dean was elected as the Kerala state president of Indian Youth Congress, and held the position until March 2020.
In 2013, Dean walked a 840 kilometers on foot from Kasargod to Thiruvananthapuram, conveying the messages of building a non- violence society and sharing the importance of a progressive youth. The "Padayatra" started from kumbla in kasargod on 10th Dec 2013 and completed at Putharikandam ground in Thiruvananthapuram on 22nd January 2014.The "Padayatra" was a 45 days long one. Rahul Gandhi and many prominent leaders of UDF took part in the "Padayatra" at various venues.
In 2015, Dean conducted the Youth Congress State Conference at Kozhikode from 22nd - 27th May. The conference included various seminars, workshops, Alumni meet and representative meetings and forums. The Youth Congress State Conference was inaugurated by Rahul Gandhi and had a participation of more than 100,000 people from various parts of Kerala and other states.Followed by the Youth Congress State Conference in 2015, Dean conducted a Secular Youth congregation on 15th Aug 2016 at Ernakulam, emphasizing the importance of being secular, and recalled the messages and principles Mahatma Gandhi.Various seminars were conducted in this front.
On May 01st 2017, Dean led Youth March from Manjeswaram to Thiruvananthapuram, with the vision of awakening the youths of kerala against rationalism and communalism, frailty performance of the ruling government. The Youth March led by Dean was joined by various Youth Fronts of UDF on the closing day - 25th May 2018, and together they besieged the secretariat of kerala at Thiruvananthapuram. Youth March led by Dean was inaugurated by Indian Youth Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Brar.
Dean observed "sathyagraham" for a period of 8 days at the Secretariat of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram in 2016, asking the state government to take appropriate actions against the self financing college capitation fees. Dean observed his second "Sathyagraham" in 2018 for 8 days at the Secretariat of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, seeking justice and adequate probe on Sohaib murder case. Dean lead "Dheera Smrithi Yatra" from Periya in Kasargod to Thiruvananthapuram seeking the government to take appropriate actions and enquiries on the sarath lal and kripesh murder case. Dean advocated and raised his voice at various venues and forums for the Dalits in Kerala. Dean underwent a total of 38 days of imprisonment so far in his political career.
Growth in Dean's political career was inseparable by his virtuous deeds. Accounting his sincerity, trustworthiness and tireless serving attitude, Indian National Congress nominated Dean Kuriakose as the candidate representing Idukki constituency for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Prevailing political winds across the nation left Dean to the second position in 2014 Lok Sabha election results of Idukki constituency.
Needless to say, In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, his tireless efforts won him the Idukki Lok Sabha constituency with a lead margin of 1,71,053 defeating Joice George of LDF, and is currently the MP of Idukki Lok Sabha constituency.
Over the years, Dean stood for various issues including the betterment of Idukki district, it's socio economic improvements, and for the empowerment of the Indian youth and labour. As a major step in this front, on May 2020, Dean has initiated an charitable trust called as IDUKKI CARE FOUNDATION to execute his vision for the betterment of Idukki district.
Dean has and will always remain focused on promoting non-violence, equality, justice and education for all.
